Cytoarchitectonic Studies on Summit of Insular Cortex in Human Brain
Yang Haing-Sik

Abstract
Cytoarchitectonics on summit of the insular cortex has been studied in 153 normal Korean brains taken from newborn till 85-year old of both the sexes of both the sides.

1. Adult average thickness of the cortical summit was in range of 2857-2879 micra.
2. Adult average relative total neuronal density was in range of 334-347 cells.
3. Adult average relative glial density was reached at the range of 475-510 cells.
4. The adult cortical thickness was reached at 6-20-year old group, and more than half of the thickness was occupoed by infragranular cortex of the whole thickness of this cortical summit.
5. The neuronal cellularity has been reached at the highest density in age group of 6-10-postnatal year, and was shown steady in successive increase of the age, while that of the glial was increased by increase of the age.
6. The more dense cellularity was found within the thin supragranular cortex of the insular cortical summit, whereas rather scarce cellularity was found in the thicker infragranular layer in this cortical region.
7. None of differences has been noted between both the sexes and the sides of the cortical itemes.

Concomitant myeloarchitectural study appears to be profitable in cytoarchitectural analysis for more realistic understanding on cortical morphology.
